Hurray, Happy New Year.
It is that time of transition once again, stepping into new year, celebrating with our Loved Ones, hmmm I smell free food Lol.
One thing that always comes with this season is that feeling of .....
Am sure you are familiar with this.
It is that time where we envision ourselves achieving our goals, eager to write down our resolutions for the next year.
Starting out well only for you get to the middle of the year and looking back you realized that the euphoric feeling is no longer there and now you have to be disciplined.
While the feeling behind new year new me is unshakable.
We also deal with that feeling of perfectionism.
I think one thing that causes us giving up or failing to achieve our resolutions is the unrealistic expectations of ourselves.
Expecting it all to turn out perfectly well and when it doesn't, we throw the baby out with the bath water.
I remember the last month of the year 2023. I wrote out my new year resolutions, prayed about it and was so eager to step into the next year.
Here comes 2024 and I was all in, eating healthy, growing in my faith, working out and all of it going on well.
Unfortunately, I got burned out in the fifth month of the year.
Slowly but surely I started derailing from my resolutions and that unrealistic feeling of perfectionism steps in.
Thank you for reading to this point, I do not take your time for granted.
So how do you "New year New me" the right way?
First,
You have to let go of the perfectionist mindset, give yourself room to fail but don't get stuck at the failing point.
Extend grace and kindness to yourself.
Second,
Write out your top three resolutions for the new year.
Wanting to achieve all at once is very common to each one of us but as the great saying goes "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".
In the list of your new year resolutions, choose your top three and focus on that but still giving yourself grace if you fail.
Three,
Discipline. Yes you heard it. You have to be disciplined.
Even after extending grace and kindness to yourself and your new year resolutions are written down the next on the list is discipline.
You have to be disciplined and show up for yourself else all the work is going down the drain.
Discipline is what is left after the motivation is no longer there.
Discipline is pushing yourself beyond the feeling of been stuck at something.
This is the hardest part of the work but it has to be done else nothing is done.
Four,
